26 June 2008 (Brussels) The European Union parliamentary hearing was held in Brussels yesterday on ever worsening political and human rights situation in Ethiopia , EMF source said. Dr. Berhanu Nega, Mayor-elect of Addis Ababa, and leader of G7 movement presented his well prepared report at the hearing. (Picture: left DLA lobbyist, right Dr. Berhanu and Ms Ana at the hearing)
European parliament’s committees of the Human rights, Development and ACP-EU representatives have attended the hearing. Representatives of the International crisis group and several Ethiopians have also attended the hearing. Meles Zenawi’s representatives didn’t dare to appear and face Dr. Berhanu. However, the Zenawi regime sent two from its multi-million paid lobby firm, DLA Piper to shamefully represent it.

Picture by Abebe, Several Ethiopians have also attended the hearing.
“I am from a lobby firm DLA Piper. I have a question to you and Ms Ana Gomes. Why don’t you fight the government in Ethiopia, like Professor Mesfin does, than from Diaspora?” Zenawi’s lobbyist asked.
The presence of DLA Piper lobbyist at such hearing was very strange. “We have never seen you in any of our sessions before,” The UK Labor Party spokesperson and Co-President of the African, Caribbean and Pacific / EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, Glenys Kinnock said to the lobbyist. Glenys has also backed the recent Human Rights Watch report that criticizes the EU executives to be silent on the crimes against humanity being committed by Meles Zenawi regime.
“In Portugal, we also had the same brutal dictator as that of Meles Zenawi,” Honorable Anna Gomes responded to the lobbyist. “We fought it both from inside and out side.”
As a chief European observer mission, Ms. Anna witnessed once again that Kinijit leaders have won the elections. “Berhanu would have been in power. But the regime put him in jail.” Anna added.
“You were doing everything to kill HR 2003,” Dr. Berhanu responded to the lobbyist. “You earn money by defending a corrupt and criminal regime at the expense of the misery of millions of the Ethiopian poor.” He added. Berhau further elaborated the crimes of the regime until the lobbyist made an apology. “We don’t want to fight a regime with in the rule of the game created in favour of it. We don’t want to fight in a frame work of what the regime wants us to be.” Berhanu said. (Picture: DLA lobbyist talking to Berhanu after the hearing)
It was then apparent that the DLA lobbyists were not in position to defend a corrupt and criminal regime. They seemed to have been very much embarrassed. They finally appreciated Dr. Berhanu for his commitment and made an apology.
A high level talk was also held on Tuesday, 25 June 2008 with top level EU executives. “He met with Javier SOLANA and Louis Michel office. It was an extremely high level talk,” source said. In the meetings, Berhanu warned the European Union about the looming danger because of their wrong foreign policy in the East Africa region.

Dr. Berhanu Nega, we’re proud of you. Please keep up the good fight against tyranny and oppression. Meles Zenawi’s days are numbered.

It is very strange indeed a government to be represented by a sort of “mercenaries” in the European Parliament. The Weyane regimes seems to lose ground, except trying to survive by employing mercenaries. it has no capable people to defend it. What a shame! It also shows that it is a puppet government whose representation should pass through its sponsors… like article 17 of the Wuchale agreement!

Wow,
It seems that the Woyanes are desperate.

It’s a slippery slope for Woyane and I pray the slide is fast.
Go Ginbot7 Movement!
God bless Ethiopia!

For the last 18 years, Ethiopia has been largest annual recipient of the EU aid.
Where did you think our tax money are going to Ethiopia for? The real problem is that the Ethiopian regime has made sure that economic assistance is diverted into military budgets. The regime is even taking control of aid deliveries and diverting it to feed the army so that it can continue to invade and occupay neighbouring countries. Meanwhile, up to 11 million people are facing starvation in Ethiopia. Now isn’t it time to stop wasting EU tax payers’ dollars on a lawless and brutal regime that puts its own survival before its people’s? Enough is truly enough.

The Ethiopian dictator spends more than $300 million on defense budget for sole reason of sustaining in power, where millions are facing famine, displacement and crime against humanity.
Luis Michel is partly responsible for this as this poor African country couldn’t have raised its defense budget by $50 million without the EU support under a pretext of Humanitarian aid.
It is time for us Europeans to question about. Why is this poor country spending millions for defense and millions for lobby firms while nearly 10 million children are on the verge of death for malnutrition?

Dear Dr. Brhanu,
I am so proud of you! We must fight these white mercenaries the so called lobbyists by any means we have. Shame on theme!! They took $1.3 Million so far from the poor 80 million people to defend the criminal and dying dictatorial regime. What unethical and immoral. This is a shame on all white people seeing this kind of representation to destroy the only historic and Black and proud Country, Ethiopia.
Thanks Dr. Brhanu, you did this not only for Ethiopia, you did it for all black race around the world.
Thank you Sir. Your are always my Hero!!!!!

Well done Dr. Berhanu, for exposing woyannes attrocities.
Meles’ government is snatching the food from the poor Ethiopians and feeding the fat cows @ DLA Piper. Shame for DLA Piper too, they feel nothing when they get paid such a huge amount of money from that famine stricken country. This is what I call greed.
One thing surprising me is, those ppl in diaspora who is calling Dr. Berhanu Woyanne, haven’t you seen enough of this man courage and determination to fight woyanne to the end yet? May be you are still blind and deaf and your mind is still filthy which can’t accept and face the truth. As he himself said ‘ Grow UP’
God bless you Dr. Berhanu and God bless Ethiopia.

The end is near for woyane
June 26th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Dr. Berhanu is a person of multiple personality. Anyone who traced his speeches from 2005 can easily understand this very fact. I am not a supporter of Woyane, but I am always disturbed by Dr. Berhanu’s move. I doubt he stands for Ethiopia and Ethiopians. He stand only for his ego… i respect him as a person, but politically, he is smaller than I thought…

Dear Dr. Berhanu,
You are an enlightened and determined citizen, all the people of Ethiopia and international community witness your commitment to democracy and justice in Ethiopia while other opposition leaders are squabbling for the non-existing power.
Most freedom loving Ethiopians and the truth are on your side. With you and your friends wise leadership the libration of Ethiopia from the mercenary woyane oligarchy will not be far.
Ethiopia will prevail by the struggle of freedom loving and committed Ethiopians!!!

Dear Dr. Birhanu,
You are doing a great job ignoring the gossip from every corner. Your effort and determination will attract many Ethiopians to one. Let others, “working in the name of oppositions” follow your foot steps instead of spreading lies, hatrade, gossip and distruction of unity.
Ginbot7- Movment for Democracy and Justice with its capable leaders is crucial to win the political war against woyanne.
Dear Birhanu, many Ethiopians are behind you to pay what ever this struggle costs.
June 27th, 2008 at 4:35 am
GREAT JOB our guys !
We are proud of you !
If needed, we will organize demonstration at EU. Just let us know we will fill the busses and come again to Brussels as usual.
June 27th, 2008 at 6:54 am
Well done Brish!!
Wherever you go and in whichever line you stand you are the jewel of Ethiopia, you always sparkle & outshine everyone.
The Woyanies knew you that they cannot stand in front of you in the international platform & that was why they opted, shamefully, to be represented by highly skilled lobbyist to challenge you. However, no matter how one can be skilled, he cannot outshine our jewel, Birhanu Nega.
Shame on the Western countries, who finance this brutal government who spends their money to pay to such lobbyists.
Dr. Brhanu, let the others keep on talking nonsense, but you keep on doing what is expected from one scholar who loves his country and people. We are behind you.
God Bless you.
June 27th, 2008 at 8:49 am
The DLA PIPER what ever their name is, is paid from the money collected from the destitute peasants of Ethiopia who are langushing on death row as a result of famine, AIDS etc. This money again would have been thrown away or burned down but AGAIN AS I SAID IS PAID TO THE ENEMIES OF THE DOWNTRODDEN MASSES . Have you ever paid to an enemy to kill you. That is what the dying people of Ethiopia are doing.
I do not care whether we are represented by DLA or Melese Ethiopian born surogates but what matters is that both the DLA AND THE HODAM SUROGATES are there at the Meeting to kill and slain the already dying Ethiopian people.
Do you know that we are in the hands of our ENEMIES. Mussoloni was far better to Ethiopia. Liberate yourself. Break the yoke or else you will languish in misery. What else do we have of Ethiopia if the people are not there. What a Country I am born of and what a Generation that I am in. WE need to unify and do more than talk to topple this bunch of Merceneries of the Menelik Palace. ARMED STRUGGLE is the Solution. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF IT
June 27th, 2008 at 9:52 am
Dear Dr Brihanu
Well done , millions ethiopians bihand you!! i wish you all the best
Viva Dr Brihanu nega at all time!!!! True son of ethiopia
Gad blees you
June 27th, 2008 at 11:42 am
I think Ginbot 7 has got clear about what they need and how to achieve. We have been loudly voicing that the current despotic regime in Menlik palace is no more willing to play according to the rules of peacefull struggle and even to it constitution. Now Dr Berhanu and Co. have come to realize and reshaped their means of struggle in its right track.
Fight, fight the criminal thugs in Addis in all fronts, diplomatic, civil disobidience, arrmed, propoganda, all meanses in our hand. Now is the question of saving our country from devastation.
Dr Berhanu a good start. Now we need leadership, commitment, organization and cooperation with other organization with similar vision. We have no time.
Shame on the so-called lobists. How on earth they take from the mouth of a poor counrty which can not feed its people to sustain in power criminal dictators?
Shame on Meles government which can not defend it self in the diplomatic fron.
Victory for Ethiopian people.
June 27th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Dr. Birhanu Nega,
You are representing the voiceless and the downtrodden people of Ethiopia to the best you can in international stage and you should be commended for that.
The shameful tribal regime of Addis Ababa did not even have the backbone to represent itself and opted to be represented by DLA-Piper (lobby). SHAME ON THE TRIBAL REGIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are proud of you Dr Birahnu Nega, and keep up the good work!!!
Abdulkadir
PS: Please mobilze the diaspora the best you can.
June 27th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Those of you who bark at Ato Hailu Shawel are missing the target. Eng. Hailu is not the enemy of the Ethiopian peoplem, Meles is. Unless you have an axe to grind, leave Hailu Shawel alone. Your statement against him explains one thing. You are still in your narrow mind set. Say better things about those who face the brunt of TPLF brutality. You envy Hailu Shawel because he is standing his ground against all sorts of odd.
I comend Dr. Berhanu for presenting the Ethiopian case.

As far as I know, lawyers are vanguards for the recognition, respect, and promotion of civil and political liberties. Contrary to this, DLP Piper is becoming an accomplice for egregious human rights violations in Ethiopia. I would have understood if DLP Piper were representing Meles in a court of law; that would have been a proper lawyers job. But in a parliamentary hearing – that is not noble and professional, given the well documented human rights violations that Meles committed, as reported, partly, by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. For me that is like a conscienceless “janitorial” work.

I agree with Mr/Ms Kabede,
Europeans were responsible for the endless social and economic misery that we Africans suffering. till africa divorce it self from foreign/european influence Africa and Africans suffering will contenue for years to come. One of the best way to deal Africans enemies/europeans is to cut tie by deporting their ambassadors out of Africa in one by one in evaluating bases.
