Woyane never attack the party’s leaders who are very familiar to the international communities and to the media. The regime has targeted its attack on the grass root level aiming at silencing the people. Look back to Muluneh Eyoel’s July 25, 2008 speech in Washington, DC. Tens of people in the south have been taken and severely beaten, right after the meeting was held by eng. Gizachew and w/t Birtukan.

Here is who Professor Mesfin is based on his own words.
      ……………………………………………………….

Professor Mesfin is wandering away from Ethiopian people. A lost sheep. The following items, from the mouth of the Professor himself, would show the extent to which he would not reach to defend the action of Meles Zenawi, directly or indirectly. He is turned into a disguised instrument of Meles Zenawi. Some of the items are paraphrases not direct translations. He said:

      1. We are new for political struggle. In general, the Ethiopian people does not have the experience and the history (of political struggle). It has to learn.

Is this true? What about the student movement? What about the sacrifices made even during Meles’s rule, under his nose? Wouldn’t the result of the election of May 15, 2005, and the demonstration of May 9, 2005 in support of the opposition forces indicate the robustness of the experience and the cumulative history of the political struggle of Ethiopian people? Was Professor Mesfin Woldemariam comfortably sleeping while these experiences manifesting themselves through the people of Ethiopia, in broad daylight?

      2. Peaceful struggle is not started. Not yet.

Is this true? He is underlining his position of #1. He is completely denying or rejecting the sacrifices made by the students, by the peasants, by the t eachers and by the professionals of different fields, all over the country, and throughout the years. What about the sacrifices made even during Meles’s rule? Wouldn’t the result of the election of May 15, 2005, and the demonstration of May 9, 2005, in support of the opposition forces, indicate the robustness of the experience and history of the political struggle of Ethiopian people through peaceful means? Was Professor Mesfin Woldemariam comfortably sleeping when these experiences that are part and parcel of the process of peaceful struggle were taking place? Because he was not involved in the process, in-hands-on-manner, does not mean it did not take place. Can the Professor specifically identify an action by him, as an input to the results of the May 9, 2005 demonstration and the May 15, election outcome? Where was he when the Ethiopian people were fighting it out tooth and nail?

      3. We did not win, (referring to the election) but we shook it up (angedagednew).

Is this true? Can we replace the “we“ with “Ethiopian people” and come up with the concluding and satisfying statement made by this Professor? The tone of his voice tells how confident he is when saying it. Note this. He completely dismissed the victory of the people of Ethiopia witnessed by the international observers, simply to appease Meles Zenawi. Professor Mesfin Woldemariam is walking on his fours and liking Meles’s feet t o let him live comfortably while the people are miserably suffering. By the way, before the election I have heard Berhanu Nega saying “lemangedaged.” Berhanu Nega did not believe that the Ethiopian people will come out in such a force and evict Meles and his cronies. Now, after the election and the victory the Professor says “angedagednew inji alashenefnim.”

      4. We will not survive without them, and they will not survive without us. (referring to Meles and Woyane).

Would the Ethiopian people say what he just said? Can any one of you say the Ethiopian people will not survive without this Mafia group? This guy is really amazing. Yemin melemameT new? He should come out and declare his position. For how long is he going to cheat the people of Ethiopia.

      5. If we want to see change, let us forgive what they did, and let them keep the wealth they amassed.

Do you agree with this statement? The mother of all intellectual opportunism. Professor Mesfin Woldemariam is, shamelessly, walking on his fours and liking Meles’s feet to let him live comfortably while the people are miserably suffering.

      6. They have difficulties and fear too, so let us understand them. (He is talking about Meles and his group)

What is he trying to get across? Is he talking to Meles and his Mafia group or to Ethiopian people. The mother of all intellectual opportunism. It=2 0is so thick one can cut it with a knife.

      7. The situation in Ethiopia did not come down to the situations that were in South Africa and Montgomery Alabama, where people were killed, burned and treated with dogs.

Can you see the implication of this analogy. What is his message? Unbelievable. He is misguiding the society by implying that it is possible to struggle in Ethiopia under Meles Zenawi’s rule. Meles is still killing, jailing, and harassing people all over the country while the Professor is minimizing and defending Meles Zenawi’s brutal act. He should have read the latest Ethiopian Human Rights Council report. It is like comparing the number killed in South Africa or in Montgomery Alabama with that of the number killed in Ethiopia and come up with a positive attribute to validate Meles Zenawi‘s heinous genocide. And yet he was claiming that he was once the defender of human rights. I am wondering whether he was doing it from his heart or simply as a profession. It is very sad to say that I have come to question his sincerity.

      8. Let us not call Meles and Woyane enemies.

Do you agree? I have said a lot about this characterization stuff. Perhaps I am the first to call Meles enemy number one, publicly. The Professor links the validity of enmity with citizenship status. His argument is Meles and his cronies are Ethiopians therefore they should not be called enemies. What is he going to call an individual who spied against his own country? What is he going to call an individual who joined Italy against Ethiopia. Meles’s grandfather was one of those who joined Italy against his own country Ethiopia. It appears Meles inherited it from his grandfather. The next constitution of Ethiopia has to delineate the specific qualifications of an individual to be a leader. The qualification criterion to include track records of an individual to be elected particularly to a leadership position, such as what Meles is holding now. An dedicated enemy of the people of Ethiopia is now ruling the country. What a disgrace.

      9. Just as the election of “97”, public gatherings, and ensuing self-congratulations puffed-up (indasabeTe) the hearts of so many people, the imprisonment has also puffed-up the hearts of some individuals.

What do you sense from his statement? Is he happy or angry with the result of the election of “97”? Is he on the side of the people or on the side of Meles? Do you sense his position? One can sense from his voice how he was trying to minimize the aggressive participation of the Ethiopian people, hence their understanding of the political situation in the country. By the way, he always, consistently, blames the people of Ethiopia that it is submissive. Most recently he compared them with the people of Kenya, for example. Long time ago, during Nimerie‘s rule, he compared them with the people of Sudan. He said t hat the Sudanese people came out, immediately, in mass, to protest the increase of fuel cost. Whose fault is it for Ethiopian people to have this kind of culture. Of course it is hurting the struggle. People don’t come out spontaneously when their leaders are jailed or the offices of their party are broken in or sealed. I did indicate this matter repeatedly for a long time. It should have been the likes of Professor Mesfin, who is in the midst of the people, who should have resolved this detrimental culture, perhaps long time ago. The problem with the Professor is he knows how to talk, he is a talking machine, but he does not even try to do something about it. Never. I think he should shut up, stay home, and wait for the next regime. A rollover.

      10. The regime is weakened. The reason being it decreed different laws in its favor to strengthen its muscle. Therefore, we have to continue weakening it.

This is a very subtle way of emasculating the struggle? I sincerely hope you would discern this divisive move on the part of the Professor. If not, some thing is wrong with you guys. Is the regime really weakened? Do you see a deliberate fallacy in his argument? What do you think? Do you think this Professor, hence, the party he is affiliated with, with this kind of opportunistic analysis, will pursue uncompromising struggle against Meles? Absolutely not.

In my opinion all those itemized above clearly indicate that Professor Me sfin Woldemariam is a disguised instrument of Meles Zenawi. What Professor Mesfin did, while he was rolling over from administration to administration does not give him the certificate to misguide and confuse these people who are emotionally attached to the situation in Ethiopia. Absolutely not. The hell with what he did before.

Finally, unfortunately, in my opinion, Professor Mesfin Woldemariam is no more credible enough to offer any political and economic crisis that the people of Ethiopia is immersed in. accepting his analysis is the same as accepting the analysis of Meles Zenawi.

Agree or disagree that is my opinion and I am sticking with it.

My ADVICE to my beloved professor: Please do only your business of advocating for peaceful struggle, for the sake of the young leaders like Birtukan. Don’t attack others.

ETHIOPIA IS AT A TIPPING POINT
      ====

Recent upheavals caused by fuel rise, food items going up, shortage of grains, wheat , teff , rice and related items dominate in general the world political scene, especially that of Ethiopia . It has been said that the government knew of this coming, the inevitable rise of oil prices is not new. In fact it has steadily been rising since many years ago, so why has the government not done anything in advance to counter this ? Years ago the right measures should have been put in place, many options are available and is not hard to do, since the Ethiopian government is flushed with heavy funds.

The state governments blame the locals , the Locals blame the village heads, the village heads blame the state government again until the circle will be closed and then in time it will all die down again, how will we ever change for the better? Does our elected representatives have any hidden agendas that we did not foresee then? Now with the same shortage of food and starvation is envisaging , they clamber once again to tell us the same few words we heard before, “we will make Ethiopia self sufficient of food !! ”

Oh ! yeas , it is nice to show me the high skyscraper, beautiful Addis , Mekele and Axum , copy and stick news about investments in Ethiopia , but the reality of our sad past , present and future situation of my country ” Ethiopia” are disgusting . Why selling crops to neighbour countries when peoples are starving ? Why show us having many plots of land ready for flower plantation, only ?

Please , have a look to these Gripping and heartbreaking pictures of our people leaving in acountry where so many rich creatures are present , where roads and houses are constructed and where the economy grows +10% , every day ! :

      http://www.boston. com/bigpicture/ 2008/06/ethiopia _in_food_ crisis_once_ m.html

The present situation results from bad governance, from the top down without forgetting the previous two governments . Policies that favour some put others in jeopardy and the people suffer. Good governance means being able to provide good security (though this is also in question ), being able to provide homes to the people ( not expensive houses for the rich only ), being able to provide enough food ( any food, not just teff only ), affordable food, and in sufficient supply, being able to provide basic amenities to the people. But I doubt even that is hard to come by these days.

Today, Ethiopia is one of the poorest nation in Africa . The single term that best describes the country now is pre-modern. This is at different times profoundly wonderful, at others profoundly depressing, but it always the central reality. It’s too weak and I couldn’t farther from the truth if I say that the real reason why Ethiopia is where it is today is because the country is still in the stages of evolving as one nation after being a feudal autocracy for millennia . This can only implies that we as a people are unable to improve our lives on own. But, the main reason why Ethiopia is where it is today is because of the disastrous economic and land policies implemented by the current government which has been financed by the US , EU and AU. The Ethiopian government which has ruled for nearly 20 years is deeply unpopular in the country , now. Can we ask Why and get an answer for it ?

Most of the world’s inhabitants, however, are unable to hold their rulers accountable, to participate in or influence their governments, or to use electoral mechanisms to affect significant change. Governance thus becomes a capricious endeavour at best and, for so much of the developing world, especially the poorest countries and those ravaged by war and disease, a synonym for autocracy and despotism. It is the plight of many: three-fifths of the world’s population lives in the developing world, and the vast majority suffer from being poorly governed. In those parts of the world, strengthening governance directly improves the lives of the governed.

There is abundant talk in diplomatic and assistance circles about the need to improve governance in the developing world. Yet, little has been done or accomplished, largely because there is no basis on which a nation state’s governance effectiveness and quality can be assessed objectively and meaningfully, compared to the standards or best practices in its neighbourhood or region. It is therefore essential to introduce a new method that is rigorous, bias-free, and capable of distinguishing degrees of good governance among countries.

Our country ” Ethiopia ” has reached a tipping point where something major is going to happen within the next few months because of the US elections coming up leading to foreign policy reforms and also an Ethiopian election happening in 2010. That is only a dream , if things are not prepared in advance to avoid the bad governance and the smugglers around it. Any government must stop making business on Famine and drought. Watch out ! Ethiopia is standing on the edge of a precipice with deep gorges of disintegration on one side and fratricide war for power on the other if she doesn’t get the chance to have a good governance and better government for the next election, 2010. Otherwise ,we will be obliged and have any other choice than taking the correct and fast locomotive for any types of struggles.

God save ” Ethiopia ” and its people.

Serke Addis - Rome / Italy

    11. Hagos Araya Says:

I think there is no way weyane would give the chance to any strong peaceful struggle party like UDJ to mobilize the people. It is very very very obvious that weyane wants to destroy UDJ using a gradual steps that is characterized by daily threat on the leaders and members, major and minor harassment and abuses to the leaders and members and even killing to punish the people who are actively involving and to show others who have a plan to join the UDJ, not to do it. The best way for the UDJ is either join the tooth and nail struggle with weyane like Ginbot 7 or aware the people that weyane is the worest animal who simply keeps killing innocents Ethiopians. Even though I strongly admire the leaders in UDJ, but I can see that they are wasting they time, energy and life even before they get acceptance to their name. It is time for Ginbot 7 who is already shaking the weyane members with its principle, then when action started Ginbot 7 will easily achieve its goal to remove the weyane hodam cruel gangster party.
      Go G7 Go………….

    12. Moges B Says:

      Hagos,

You are so funny. How can you expect G7 to defeat woyane from Washington, DC and London? The only thing G7 can do is pressure the woyane mafia regime to open democratic space or to start dialogue with “peaceful” opposition parties in Ethiopia. We’ve seen this with exiled political parties/movements, EPRP and OLF.

Therefore, only parties inside Ethiopia can bring the defeat of woyane by organizing the people at the grass root level. This, by no means, is an easy task. And the existence of UDJ as a “legal” political party is very important.

Hagos, you seem very naive about woyane. You suggesting woyane started killing UDJ/Kinijit supporters/members today. No! Woyane has started killing and intimidating pro-democracy Ethiopians before the formation of Kinijit and will continue killing and intimidating the people after the formation of UDJ. And that does not mean the people, particularly UDJ, will stop fighting against woyane and struggling for democracy for that. UDJ and its supporters are ready to face all the consequence and bring democracy in Ethiopia.

Hagos, stop barking and denouncing peaceful struggle whenever you see woyane’s mafia-like intimidation. This is a struggle. And a struggle has many sacrifices to pay. Open you eyes and don’t fall for sweet talk of some “aradas.”

Denouncing those struggling inside Ethiopia is a losing strategy!

Victory to the Ethiopian People, and the UDJ!

      “Yes Ethiopians Can!”

P.S. G7 has no army or armed group. I see them no different than exiled peaceful struggle movement.]

    14. Mike Says:

      Dear Hagos,

How do you organize people in Ethiopia while you need begging woyane for a simple meeting?
Peaceful struggle needs better organized, commited and all inclusive mass movement. To do that there are a lot of red lights legally and illegally. Woyane interpretes the constitution as it wishes. Do you know who has the power to interprete our constitution? Federation council-a bunch of woyane cadres. There are also securities who torture, jail and kill any body who challenges the regime.
That is why peacefull struggle doesn’t work in Ethiopia at this moment. We have to fight those criminal thugs in all fronts. No begging. Alas

    15. Solution Says:

Hagos said, “The best way for the UDJ is either join the tooth and nail struggle with weyane like Ginbot 7″

G7 is touring Europe and the United States. That’s not a “tooth and nail struggle.” And if that is G7’s “tooth and nail struggle with woyane,” G7 will be “dagmawi” EPRP. G7 is not even close to a simple struggle. G7 is a support group of the struggle in Ethiopia. It cannot be a major force.

Hagos also said, “It is time for Ginbot 7 who is already shaking the woayne members…” This kind of knee jerk reaction will not lead us to victory. Let’s be honest and say it as it is. G7 is new and has no leverage to “shake woyane.”

In order for woyane to be shaken, what G7 can do is start 5-day two hour radio program to Ethiopia, unite all exiled political parties, lobby foreign governments (strong diplomacy), start satellite TV to Ethiopia, work together with other diaspora support groups, educate your supporters to stop denouncing political parties in Ethiopia, and bring the silent diaspora majority to your movement.

G7 does not even have a 1-hour radio program per day. This says much about the movement. It is way behind in shaking woyane.

Saying all that, however, the formation of G7 is a positive development.

    16. nuna Says:

      Solution,
I agree with you completely, if G7 does all you mentioned above i will say that would be more than enough done by a party to bring the people in Ethiopia together to fight for a common cause, right now there is no way to get information to the people, i don’t care what kind of party is created by whom whether inside or outside of the country, unless they reach Ethiopians in Ethiopia through radio or tv nothing will work.

First of all I would like to thank you for your positive and negative criticism on my point, however I have clearly noticed that some of you either didn’t read my comment properly or wanted to divert my idea differently from the fact. I believe these problem could’ve been came from again either from lack of understand or those who are against Ginbot 7 (i.e. weyane and Eyasu EPRP)
From the very beginning I didn’t write that Ginbot 7 has started armed fight, but to me and to many of you that Ginbot 7 has established its party along with its clear ideology surrounded by a struggle that believes in all types of strategy to down weyane. Earlier today I wrote “Ginbot 7 who is already shaking the weyane members with its principle, then when action started Ginbot 7 will easily achieve its goal to remove the weyane hodam cruel gangster party.” That simply means that the creation of Ginbot 7 with a kind of principle that they acquired has been already a head ache for weyanes, at the same time many Ethiopians have been satisfied by the formation of the party and becoming a member and supporter of the party, at this time our brother Muleneh Eyoel would be our best example, who was one of the top officials of the former kinijt and has been actively involved and participated in UDJ but decided to leave his beloved country and party to find the best, which he did and joined Ginbot 7. In addition to that weyane has already warned and threaten many private press owners in Ethiopia to stop any types of news that is related to Ginbot 7 and weyane has also increased its local and international security agents to attack the Ginbot 7 party leaders and supporters. This clearly shows that Ginbot 7 has already started shaking the weyane in terms of propaganda. As I also quoted my previous comment, Ginbot 7 is a party with best leaders that have already been testified in many occasions in Ethiopian struggle. So I said above that when Ginbot 7 starts its principles to actions that would be the end of weyane era. However, If we really are oppositions who are against weyane, we should stand along Ginbot 7 regardless of our political difference since our people need solutions as soon as possible.
I also want to address my point to most of you who had said and saying that where is the struggle of Ginbot 7? and there is no war from Washington and London, and so on. There is no way Ginbot 7 will start any type of war as soon as its formed a party, what kind of damn mentality have most of you carrying? I mean Ginbot 7 just officially announced its formation of the party about three month ago and you guys expecting Ginbot 7 to control the mountains of Gondar, tigray, gojjam, harrarge or other cities….Unless you have a damn mind or sympathizer of weyane, or sympathizer of eyasu EPRP one can’t expect ginbot 7 can achieve all the above things this short. Of course they need to be formed then extending their members and supporters then strengthen their party with people, money, energy and everything, then the final steps would be start their written principles to practical application.
For some of you I also didn’t say that peaceful struggle wouldn’t need sacrifice, of course there are always sacrifice in any type of struggle, but the sacrifice has to be for success not for nothing that prolongs weyane life. From now on our sacrifices have not to be for practice anymore, it has to be a path for a final results which can completely remove the weyane party. If UDJ took over a year and lost so many lives to get its name approval. So how many years it would take to mobilize the people and to succeed with its principle? I mean there are still the eight points of kinijit has to be settled in order to involve in to the election for UDJ, so how many years we need to satisfy one point our of eight which lead UDJ to make a free and fair election in the country? I urge everyone to come to the reality, just because we all love and respect the leaders of UJD don’t mean that is the end of our struggle. By the way I love all the UDJ leaders as most of you do.
Anyway, I still have a big respect and honor to the leaders, members and supporters of UDJ, but it is going to be a long dream work to fight weyane using peaceful struggle compare to the ground facts of current weyane. It is better to be smarter to obtain our needs by keep changing our strategy as weyane did to stay in power. Again, it is very clear that weyane is not and will not be willing to give up power unless we find the best way to remove it, i.e. principles like G7.
Good luck for all opposition parties and death for weyane members and supporters.
