EMF - April 26, 2008 - Deeply concerned about the unjustly imprisoned, Ethiopian pop-star Teddy Afro, Ethiopians are organizing a protest rally in front of Ethiopian Embassy, Washington DC, on Monday April 28, 2008. The demonstrators are calling upon the Ethiopian Authorities to respect rule of law and human rights. Ethiopians believe that Artist Teddy is prisoner of conscience. [Read the Amharic PDF]

Eventhough Teddi Afro is another victim of the TPLF regime, making Tedi Afro the main reason of the demonstration seems to me too stupid.
There are abundant human rights and civil rights abuses in Ethiopia to demonstrate about ! For example we should demand Free Mass media in Ethiopia. We could demand to lift the jamming of VOA and Germany Radios in Ethiopia etc.
I call ethiopia every week. Ethiopians are unable to listen to any radios from abroad. Even Abebe belew’s new Radio transmission is being blocked completely. There are still thousands of Kinjit supporters forgotten in jails.
Howmany of us know that Ethiopia is still under Martial law? So we could demand the emeregency law reinstated 3 years ago to be lifted etc.. Not only in washington, I also believe the demonstration at all Weyane embassies around the world should continue to expose the dictators at Minilik Palace.

it should be world wide demostration till teddy and ethiopia is free from meles!!!!

Mr terfe u come up with an excellent reasoning. The purpose of the demonstartion should be to demand freedom to all ethiopians, not just teddy. As u said, ethiopians are not able to organize public demonstartion in ethiopia. Agazi’s dictator emergency rule put in place following the 2005 election is still effective. This is a shame!!!!!!!!
Right now
Ethiopian are deprived (by the agazis) of their basic rights to express themselves through free media.
Ethiopians are deprived of their basic rights to leave peacefully in their own motherland. Ogadenians and oromos are migrating away from their natural land at an alarming rate.
Even worse ethiopians are deprived of their right to EAT. Believe it or not the agazis are delebrately starving our people.
In a country with all these fatal problems, it is insensible for the diaspora to demonstarte for the release of a pop star. How about the million ethiopians that are lawlessly jailed for political reasons along with Teddy??? arent they ethiopians??? or are they less ethiopians than Teddy????
The theme of these demonstartion should be made to fit to the pressing problems facing our people right now and that is FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY FOR ETHIOPIA!!!!!!!!

STUPIDS! i won’t take dayoff just to stand there and gossip for an individual!! Terefe is right! there are a lot other burning issues which are importand! Teddy is one of thousands those individuals.

Obang wants to have a worldwide march on May 15, why don’t we wait and put our efforts and demands together.

It is sad that ethiopians dont have any organization to organize them for broadbased anti weyane demonstration ! I believe this is the time that all anti weyane ethiopians to stand and confront irrespective of party affiliation. why cant we organize demo to remember May 15, 2005 historic election infront of weyane embassies? Did we loose the battle?

It seems for me that once a single person is famous we try to bring the issue to the world, but all over the country there are so many ethiopians who is suffering unlawfully. why we ignore them, till know but try to make a favour to some one.
Let us remember the may 2005 which also included Teddy’s issue

Teddy is not just one ordinary individual. He is an icon of Ethiopian nationalism. Of course Meles and Weyannes have identity crisis, they hate who are those that love their country. Let us go out for Teddy and for all those Ethiopians who are languishing in Weyannes jail just because they express their opinions. Having said that I want Melse to remember that he will die one day and go to hell for all the crime he committed against humanity. I want to remind the moron Weyannes, Meles is one ugly looking guy and he will pass and Weyanne will go down too, then you will regret for the crime you committed against Ethiopians and Somalians.

How can you post a comment like this? You people always tell us that you are the angels!! By the time when you get on power, that will be the end of ethiopia.

Thank you Guenet, May15-18 is a better choice. During this time, there is a world-wide rally agaist the killer regime of Zenawi. Included in this rally is the issue of Teddy Afro. Other issues are humam rights abuse, stealing the votes of the people, ceding our lands to the Sudan, the killing of innocent citizens everyday, imprisonment of innocent citizens, the stealing of public properties by TPLF officials, the invension of Somalia, absence of democracy and the spread of terorism and fear among the Ethiopian people. All these are important issues that should be expressed in the rally. Everybody all over the world is invited to participate and this is the right time to do it. The May 15 rally is called by Obabg. You should wait until May 15 and demonastrate with others. Your voice will have an impact when you combine you voice with otheres. Lack of combined effort is what is needed now to remove Woyanne. We need to do things together to be more effective. We do not want to be divided. Enough is enough. If you do not agree with this, I suspect that you are agents of Woyanne. We do not accept a separate demonstration on April 28, and you cannot anymore fool us if you are Woanne agents.

I don’t think this has anything to do with politics, he is supposed to be an icon well he should be a better example to his ppl. What he did is wrong, and just because he is an icon it does not mean he need to be trialed differentily. He should be punished just like everyone.
