Meles finalizes the give away of 400,000 Ethiopian farmlands to Sudan
By Abbay Media Staff
On December 6, 2007 on his way to the Lisbon conference, Meles Zenawi visited Sudan to supposedly open the road between Sudan and Ethiopia, but it has now become clear the main agenda for this trip was to finalize the handing over of Ethiopian territories to Sudan.
Reporting on the visit, the Sudanese English Newspaper ‘Khartoum Monitor’ on the Thursday, December 6, 2007, Vol.6, Issue No. 1434, reported the Governor of Al-Gedarif state, Dr Abdel Rahman al-Khidir as saying “He added that the visit of Ethiopian Prime Minister indicates Ethiopians concern for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. The remaining part of the Sudanese land farmed by Ethiopian farmers will be given back to the Sudanese farmers, he asserted”.
This visit was a continuation of the event which was reported on the 3rd July 2007 by Sudan Tribune;
‘A joint Sudanese-Ethiopian committee would start today to hand over agricultural lands to residents of more than 17 Sudanese villages located in eastern Atbara River along the Ethiopia-Sudan border’.
The agricultural lands remained a source of dispute for more than 100 years, but the Meles Zenawi government had managed to give it away and once again changed the map of Ethiopia for the third time since coming to power in 1991.
Meles Zenawi endless generosity in the expense of Ethiopia’s territorial integrity will on this occasion displace more than 400,000 Ethiopians from their farmlands.
The given away Ethiopian region is not just a loss of vital and fertile land; it is also an area that is strategically important in the long-term interest of Ethiopia. The Atbara River makes up more than 10% of the total Nile runoff and giving up this area does not help the already unfair distribution of the Nile Basin resources. Instead of joining Tanzania and Kenya in condemning the inequitable distribution of resources abused mostly by Egypt against the other Nile Basin countries, the Meles Zenawi government has now given up important regions along the rivers that supply the Nile.
In exchange for the land granted to Sudan, the Sudanese have been rounding up and deporting suspected armed Ethiopian opposition groups residing in Sudan.
It needs to be noted that Meles Zenawi and his EPRDF/TPLF party didn’t mention a single word about this important, shocking and treasonous news to the Ethiopian parliament.

Eastern Sudan farmers get back disputed lands from Ethiopia
July 3, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — A joint Sudanese-Ethiopian committee would start today to hand over agricultural lands to residents of more than 17 Sudanese villages located in eastern Atbara River along the Ethiopia-Sudan border.
The agricultural lands remained a source of dispute for more than 100 years.
Governor of Al-Gadarif State, in eastern Sudan, Abdelrahman al-Khidir told Akhir Lahzah that this step came as an implementation of 1971 agreement which stated re-demarcation of the border between the two countries.
He added that technical arrangements have been finished and a committee of seven experts from each side would give the Sudanese farmers their lands, pointing out that his government is ready to append these farmers with the current agricultural season.
He said that with the end of the committee’s work which might last for a week, the lands would be back to their owners.
He explained that they have formed 17 cooperative societies in addition to other previous societies in order to support the farmers within the framework of the agricultural campaign on one hand and to consolidate the Sudanese land on the other.
Furthermore the governor called for dealing with the border issue with a good spirit between the two countries, adding that people should look at the border issue as an area of integration not of conflicts.
He explained that the final operation of border re-demarcating which might conclude after the autumn season would put an end for all kinds of security breaches and instability situation in the area. Source: Sudan Tribune

1600KM is a very vast area of land.
can we call Sudan embassy to verify this information?
can EMF organize Interview on this matter?
April 29th, 2008 at 3:48 am
I am not surprized since I know that Meles Zenawi is the enemy of Ethiopia and will do all he can to harm our country. He is occupying Ethiopia and plundering the country`s resources to build his future country called the republic of Tigray. He is winning good friends or neighbours around by giving away Ethiopian land. His ethnic supporters and blind followers do not care a bit as longs as no land is given away from their future republic of Tigray. The issue is how long do we sit as passive onlookers when all this crime and treason is being committed against our country and people?
April 29th, 2008 at 3:57 am
i am really tiredof reading the crimes of agazi master zenawi. all that we need is a coordinated ARMED STRUGGLE to free our country from neocolonialist-agazi forces!!!!!!
No more talk people!!!! no more talk!!!!!

I really wonder, if this is a true story why dont you send this news to CNN, Aljazeera or BBC ? Just Putting the story on website alone doesnt bring anything.
Why dont VOA and German radios report on this?
April 29th, 2008 at 5:22 am
Birru, it is 100% a TRUE story. It is a secret TPLF deal so do not expect BBC or CNN to find this. Just wait eye witness information will come soon. It is the plan of TPLF to tear ethiopia apart. We must now unite to expose and fight Weyanes.
April 29th, 2008 at 5:57 am
Yes ketema,
We must fight them that’s the only way out and we don’t need them any more let them have their own land they were like HIV virus to the rest of ethiopian people, gobez tomorrow they will deliver the rest of our land.

Tigre,
You are dedeb like your Boss.
why is your boss Meles hiding in Minilik palace 24 hours?
have you seen meles his face and his hands? it looks too whitish like Leprosy because he never saw a sunshine. I would rather die than live like this in fear. Meles, Bereket and Sibhat Nega etc…would never walk freely in Addis or in any any country !
Ethiopians are not cowards. 193 ethiopians have given their blood and life for their country. Believe me, the struggle continues until TPLF is demolished from the face of ethiopia. If you want to see more ethiopian heroes, go and visit www.eppf-first.org

Tigre, tell me what is your “wondenet” suppressing and dividing your own people in ethnic line and being an apartheid government in your own country? If not then what else?
First of all, do not you know that it was because of the profound hate to the Dergs the silence approval of the Ethiopian people to TPLF struggle was the major cause for the end of the Derg regime?
Belive me your government’s fall is inevitable because, we Ethiopians from all corner of the country has the same kind of profound hate to you and the likes and your Woyane “shumamint”.
One more thing, we know all Tigrians are not Woyanes like you so, do not try to hide your self under the name of Tigre. You and your likes are the criminal woyaness. You are playing 17+ yrs backward politics. Wake up, the divide and rule evil tacti is not going to move you 1 inch any more.

It is time to go after every Tigre or any other person supporting and fighting for Meles Zenawi. They should be driven out of Ethiopia and be made aware of the fact that they can not live on their rocky Tigray. They will not eat the rock and survive. These are parasite TPLF locusts feeding on our people and countru. We should rise up and destroy the TPLF locusts eating and killing Ethiopia.

The days of the agazi weyane reign is coming to an end real soon. These beggars’ funds will run dry and then we shall see Etrhiopians take what is rightfullt theirs; weyane supporters will be kicked back to bone dry stony land of the wild agames!

Since the aarival of Woyane, the Amhara people did`t rise againt those evils except the Sheaw-menze in 1994.Hence, it is better for you guys instead of opposing other peoples right to supplment the struggle to wipe out those Agazi grass-hoper.Woyane took matama and present Quara as a gift for a sudan to help woyane in their dirty job.A dust barren land-Badime (hundred thousand life lost) and the fertile land gonder is summited freely to Sudan farmers which was a bone of contention for more than 100 years.I am really sorry for those farmers who lost theeir livelyhood.Woke up and coordinate your effort with other people. The fake election, the dream peaceful struggle does not help anybody except woyane. Do`nt fool yourself the Amharas!
